Marriage rules, causes and methods of dissolution. Help of a lawyer for Russian speakers in Egypt
The family code in Egypt is based on Sharia Law. Marriage between a man and a woman of any religion is officially registered: between Muslims, between Christians. The difference is that Christian marriages in Egypt are not subject to divorce – this issue can be worked out with our lawyers in person.
There are a number of important rules for foreign women who plan to live in Egypt, have and raise children. If all your decisions are weighed, then you should not have any problems. Most problems can be solved by negotiations. Remember that in Egypt it is a very common situation in which a foreign woman takes a child and leaves, so any man is afraid of this and will defend himself, especially if this is the first and only child.
Remember also that a Muslim man has the right to marry up to 4 women. While for a woman this is unacceptable and punishable by imprisonment. Therefore, take care in advance that you are divorced and at least 3 months have passed since the date of your last divorce. A Muslim man, a citizen of Egypt, can divorce his wife in just one day at his own request, unless, of course, he is restrained by special conditions of the marriage contract. A Muslim woman or a Christian woman married to a Muslim man can only obtain a divorce through the courts. In the case of a Christian marriage – remember that this is not your home country and divorce can be a problem for your whole life, especially if there are children in the marriage.
